Writing and Performing

Kelli Stevens Kane's poetry is featured or forthcoming in Spider Magazine, Denver Syntax, The Poetry Super Highway, The Mom Egg, Word Riot, Mythium Literary Journal, Kweli Journal, and Little Red Leaves.

She received a Serpent Source Foundation grant for an oral history work in progress about the Hill District of Pittsburgh.

Kelli was a selected participant in the 2010 Hurston/Wright Writers' Week Poetry Workshop taught by Tyehimba Jess at Howard University; the 2010 VONA (Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation) Advanced Poetry Workshop for writers of color taught by Suheir Hammad; and in the 2009 VONA workshop, "Building a Poetry Collection," taught by Willie Perdomo.

Her first (so far unpublished) poetry manuscript, "Hallelujah Science," is currently making the rounds in multiple first book contests. Nineteen poems from "Hallelujah Science," appear or are forthcoming in the publications listed above.

Kelli was a regular in the San Francisco poetry scene in the late nineties, performing as a featured writer in venues and events including Poetry Above Paradise, SF Bay Area Book Council’s Read Aloud Day, North Beach Festival, Open Studios, Café International, Yakety Yak, Forked Tongue, and Abandoned Planet Bookstore.

She returned to the stage in December 2009 as part of Unblurred, in a reading presented by Hip Mama, celebrating Pittsburgh writer Amanda Gilby's contest-winning short fiction piece, "My Blue Gardenia." Kelli's recent performance at the Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village, celebrated the latest issues of The Mom Egg. Her latest performance was part of offCenter, The August Wilson Center for African American Culture's summer performance series.

Community Service

Kelli serves as Immediate Past President of Metro Family Practice, Inc., a non-profit health center in Wilkinsburg, PA that serves patients regardless of their ability to pay. Kelli was also a founding board member of the ToonSeum, Pittsburgh's museum of cartoon art.

Planet Saturday, LLC

Kelli is President of Planet Saturday, LLC, the Pittsburgh based art and animation studio she co-founded with her husband, artist and animator Monty Stevens Kane. She is also the editor of Planet Saturday Comics, their all-ages print and online comic about childhood and parenthood.
